It is possible that you have used the 'neroburnplugin.dll' plug-in of the Nero burning software before upgrading
the Media Player to version 11. This plug-in is not compatible with the new
player. Since it continues to get installed after an update, it can even disturb the
program. Microsoft provides a hot fix for solving this rather usual problem.
You can find it at:
http://download.microsoft.com/down load/f/7/a/f7a72f9f-9b69-439e856bdd593658a61a/windowsmedia11-kb935957-x86-intl.exe.
Unfortunately, it is available only through this direct link. Start the installation after the download and follow the steps suggested by the wizard. The
modification is effective even without restarting the PC. For security purposes,
the operating system automatically creates a restore point. Solution without a hot?x: The hot?x that has been mentioned only deletes some registry entries you too can do this. Start the registry editor and go to the 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLS ID' key. Here, delete the entire sub-key '{896E73F0-3851-11D3-AA54-00C04FD22F8C}'.
Navigate your way to the 'HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\UIPlugins\' key. Here too, delete the entire sub-key'{292AE934-4F49-40bb-9E7E-6F6398ED9C31}'. This removes the annoying references to the plug-in. Now close the registry.
Finally, you can check whether these steps have been executed successfully in 'Tools | Plug-Ins' in the Media Player. The Nero entry should not be visible any more and your player should not hang.
