Though its not a dedicated solution, the "Compatibility mode " offered by Windows XP just might be useful when attempting to run an application intended for an older
version of Windows.
Success is not assured, but there is no harm in trying it out. To run an old application in compatibility mode, do the following: Right click on the executable or shortcut of the application that you intend to run in compatibility mode.

Select the tab labeled as " Compatibility " and activate the very first option called Run this program in compatibility mode for. Using the drop-down menu, choose the version of Windows for which the application was made. Now click on Apply to confirm the procedure.
